Committing to Continuity

Updated: Mar 28

“Three mantras you should never say: I don’t know. I’m not ready. I can’t do it.”  ~ Yogi Bhajan. The Teachings of Yogi Bhajan

I often struggled keeping up with new hobbies and interests.

What always started out as being a great idea and ‘my new thing’ often faded after I’d had a busy day at work or just wanted to do something else.

I watched a short video from a Kundalini Yoga instructor who said that to begin a new practice you must commit to 40 days of doing it. After 40 days a new habit is formed. If you skip even one day you must go back to the beginning.

Wow!

I’m a pretty determined girl and I wanted to change some patterns in my life. I wanted to get up earlier and start the day better, so commit I did.

I joined the meditation practice just to see if I could do it. Those words resonating in my head the whole time.

“If you skip a day, you have to start again.”

I began to see the regular practice made a huge difference. It was hard getting up but I wanted to commit not only to the task but to myself.

At the end of the 40 days I realised I had actually enjoyed it. The time spent by myself every morning in the quiet of the house, I had loved it.

My new pattern is now embedded firmly. I get up each morning wanting to spend that time with myself for my well being and happiness. I now do a session in the evening too!

That commitment and consistency has helped me to feel balanced, happier, more able to cope with life’s knocks and challenges.

I often hear people say, “I can’t meditate.” but you couldn’t walk or ride a bike when you first started and now look at you.

You committed to a task because you wanted it, needed it.

So what do you want to do now?

Kick a habit. Change a negative pattern. Even meditate.

You can do it if you really try. If your intention is truly set and you want it enough. You  can.

My 40 day challenge has helped me to commit to myself in so many other ways too. . . such as writing this blog every week.

Once my intention is set, nothing will stop me.

Happy travelling.

Yours authentically

Emma
